TEACHING PHILISOPHY STATEMENT

Well, I am so glad to have finished this course satisfactorily. I want to say that at the very beginning of this term, I felt so worried and sometimes afraid of taking it, but those feeling went away when I finally face the first class. With that first time, everything changed and I went growing in knowledge and in experience. Nevertheless, what really helped me was the feedback from the teachers’ evaluations.

At the time to answer this question “how do I conceive teaching EFL?” I can answer saying that teaching EFL is one the most wonderful thing that I have ever done. I also think that teaching English is more interesting than teaching in our mother tongue.
I am captured in the point that teachers no only teach, do activities, play games and do lesson plans but also learn from everything. I may think that I will never forget these experiences. Besides, teaching EFL has helped me to catch up with the English language vocabulary and phrases and other things that I had forgotten. However, what really calls my attention is the possibility to interact in a different language, do many tasks, and feel like if I am my own environment. That is what I am pleased of.
The two method I really use the most when teaching are “the shoelace and playing games”. The shoe lace because it is simple and easy to use. I just put a piece of thread pasted on each end with masking tape, and it is helpful to explain grammar structure, sentence order or anything that comes to our mind. In the other hand playing games, also, motivates the student and give a different perspective to the class making the student to be attentive to the content.
Now when I think in this question “What is the role of the teacher in an EFL classroom?” I can start speaking out about lots of things, but I consider the role of the teacher as the followings: to have attitude and high motivation, be self-assured in his capacity, have dominium over the class and content, be dynamic and well organized (laugh and be serious when necessary), be friendly and motivator, be patient, tolerant, eager. The teacher should be a guide and facilitator, etc. I consider that these are the most radical roles for me even though there can be many more.
I strongly consider that not only the teacher has roles to accomplish but also the students. Thus, what is the role of the students? -In my opinion, the student has to take the following roles: be attentive, opened minded to learn, dynamic, participative, interested, not shy, minded to work in the activities, in pairs or groups, be organized, do the homework, do the task demanded, study often, etc. because the best way to be taught is letting themselves to summit into the learning.
Moreover, “what are my expectation of an EFL class?” What I really expect in an EFL class is to accomplish my objective in the set time, with the set activities and the set games for the students learn and know. In this part, I start to be aware about the type of activities that I will develop with the students, and how they will respond to them. I also expect that at the end of my class everything has been carried out in a nice way to succeed in the reaching goal.
